Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar Lake religious importance
Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar Lake are the pinnacle religious destinations for Hindu pilgrims. Hindus dream of visiting these two places at least once in their lifetime. They are the permanent homes of the great Lord Shiva and his wife, goddess Parvati.
Lord Shiva, the destroyer and transformer of the Hindu trinity, makes Kailash a place of immense spiritual power. Devotees visit to seek blessings and cleanse their sins. The Kailash Mansarovar tour is a pilgrimage that brings devotees closest to their deity, a journey of profound spiritual significance.
So, you can see many pilgrims everywhere traveling to this place. Kailash Parikrama, also known as Kora, is believed to cleanse one's soul and lead to liberation from the cycle of rebirth. It is a sacred, challenging three-day walk. Likewise, Mansarovar Lake is at the base of Mt. Kailash.
The lake is believed to have been formed from Lord Brahma's mind. It is one of the most sacred lakes for Hindus. Pilgrims dip in its icy cold water to purify their bodies, minds, and souls, adding the meaning of moksha (liberation) to their journeys and lives.
Kailash Mansarovar tour from Kathmandu itinerary
Usually, traveling to Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar Lake is considered challenging. However, if you are traveling from Kathmandu, you will get well-made roads, making the journey smooth and not leaving you tired.
From Kathmandu, you will ride for 8 to 9 hours to reach the Nepal-Tibet border, Kerung. Our Tibetan representatives will support you from here on. Kerung is at a high altitude (2,900 meters), so you will spend a few nights here acclimatizing and exploring.
From Kerung, continue the ride to Saga, enjoying stunning mountain views and alpine lakes like Khunmen Tso, Sinling, Karru Ongchen, and Peiku Tso. On the fourth day, you will reach Mansarovar Lake. From Saga, you will drive across the Mayomla Pass (5,112 m) and descend to Paryang.
From here, drive to Mansarovar. Visit Chui monastery and Rakshastal Lake. The following day, a short 2 to 3 hours of drive will take you to Darchen, the base of Mt. Kailash. The Kora starts from here. You will spend almost an entire day resting and recovering from the long rides of the last few days.
You will start Kora (circumambulating around Mt. Kailash) on the sixth day and walk for three days to complete it. On the first day, you will walk to Dira-Puk, 5,210 meters. The trail goes along rocky cliffsides. The next day, you will walk to ZuthulPhuk.
It is the most challenging day of trekking because you will cross the Dolma La pass (5,670 m), the highest point of the Kailash Mansarovar tour for ten days. Upon reaching the top of the pass, you will enjoy the view and do Puja.
Spend time relishing the powerful energy surrounding the top and descend to ZuthulPhuk to spend the night. You will visit Gauri Kund at the base. The final day of Kora involves walking a few kilometers. You will explore shrines, caves, and monasteries on the way.
Once you reach the end of the Kora, get ready to drive back to Saga on the same day. The highway will be the same. From Saga, you retrace the road back to Kerung. Our Nepali representatives will welcome you back to Kathmandu on the other side of the border and drive you to your hotel.
