The network of 108 lakes

Gosaikunda Lake is not the only lake. It is a network of 108 lakes spread across the Langtang region. The Gosaikunda Lake is the main lake. If you decide to walk more, you can explore three more lakes: Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, and Surya Kunda. These lakes are situated around the Gosaikunda Lake.

Must-Know
Essential Information

Short Gosaikuna Lake Trek Difficulty

Short Gosaikunda Lake trek is moderately difficult. The trail is rugged and steep in some parts, but you can easily navigate it with a bit of effort. The trail starts through lush forests. Even though you will be walking uphill, adequate oxygen will be in the air.

Gradually, the tree line fades away, making walking more exhausting and challenging. The oxygen level starts to deplete once you go above Chandan Bari (3,330 m). This will not affect fit trekkers, but that not in good shape may get tired sooner than usual.

After the tree line comes the alpine zone, where meadows, barren hills, towering mountains, lakes, and glaciers will surround you, you do not need to have previous trekking experience to do the short Gosaikunda Lake trekking in Nepal. However, decent fitness is required. In three days of trekking, you will walk almost 6 to 7 hours a day. Good stamina, endurance, and strength are needed to walk this long. Another thing to consider is altitude sickness.

Our short Gosaikunda Lake trek itinerary does not have acclimatization days. You will spend two nights in the Dhunche and Chandan Bari settlements before moving to Gosaikunda Lake.

The ascent will be gradual, but you will also go above 4,000 meters in just three days, and it can trigger altitude sickness. So, you have to be mindful and follow the preventive measures. One last thing we want to talk about is the basic guesthouse accommodation and simple food on the short Gosaikunda Lake trek.

Given its lesser popularity and fewer visitors, the trekking infrastructure is much more raw and basic than Langtang Valley and other famous trek routes in Nepal. Therefore, trekkers must be open to adjustment and embrace the simplicity of mountains.

Short Gosaikunda Lake Trek Preparation

Trekkers can do a few things to prepare for the short Gosaikunda Lake trekking in Nepal. Strength training, day hikes, walking, and activities such as cycling, swimming, running, jogging, yoga, etc, will help you physically fit.

You do not have to do everything. Please choose the one you can be consistent with and do it for 3 to 4 or 6 weeks before the trek starts. As mentioned earlier, you will need strength, stamina, and endurance to complete and enjoy the trek, so focus on achieving these things.

Likewise, trekking in the Himalayas is also mentally challenging. You will push yourself physically and mentally to walk for 6-8 hours a day. You also have to adjust to simple services and remember many modern conveniences. Research about the trail, Read blogs or watch videos and Make yourself aware of the trail, locals, and the lifestyle. Have the right expectations for facilities. Do not forget this adventure trek demands you to push yourself and get uncomfortable in a good way.
