Tamang Heritage trail is between the two giant Himalayan Mountains, Langtang Himal and Ganesh Himal. It is a community trek made with the help of a few NGOs to support the rural Tamang community and uplift their economy.

Land at the Kathmandu airport and fulfill your visa obligations. You can meet our team members at the terminal gate waiting for you with the name card. They will drop you at the hotel and brief you about the day. The arrival day is leisure. You can explore Thamel and nearby places from your hotel.

Today, you will visit some historical monuments in Kathmandu. Our friendly tour guide will accompany you. You'll visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhnath Stupa, and Monkey Temple. Later in the day, you'll meet the trek guide and pack for the trip.

Our first day of the journey begins with a comfortable drive to Syabrubesi. Leaving the rush of Kathmandu, we will drive, enjoying the views of lush green hills and terraced fields.

On the way, we can see views of Langtang and Ganesh Himals. Some parts of the ride are bumpy. From Kathmandu, it's a 6 to 7-hour drive to Syabrubesi.

Today is the first day of the trek. From Syabrubesi, we walk through lush forests. After a few ascends and descents, we walk by some small settlement areas. The trail is less crowded, so you can enjoy the walk. The views are surreal. Gatlang is a pretty village with welcoming locals.

It's a short five-hour walk from Gatlang to Tatopani. We walk past mani walls and chortens. The trail is gentle and passes through dense forests to Chilime.

After walking for a few hours, we cross a suspension bridge and ascend along the terraces to Gonggang village. The trail leads to Tatopani, where you can enjoy natural hot springs.

After a few short days, today, we walked to Thuman. We leave Tatopani and ascend to Nagthali village, which offers stunning scenery. This place is famous for meditation centers among monks and priests and is between lush forests.

The views of the Ganesh Himal range are magnificent. Before reaching Thuman, we descend on a steep path to Thuman. In clear weather, we can see Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, and Saliung Himal views.

We walk on a steep downhill path to the Bhote Koshi River, from which we trek to Timure. It is the last village on Nepal's northern border that follows the ancient salt trade route. Later in the day, we'll visit the historical Rasuwa Fort, built in 1855.

The trail from Timure goes downstream for an hour to Lingling. In this village, there are lodges and tea shops. This village offers a traditional homestay. From Lingling, it's two hours to ascend to Briddim, a Tamang village with fantastic scenery.

Leaving Briddim, we descend to Syabrubesi. We'll follow a forested path covered with beautiful rhododendrons. On the way, we can see stunning views of mountains like Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung.

Hire a Trekking porter

We suggest you to hire a porter to carry your bag pack while on trek, trekking with a light day pack is much easier and you enjoy your trekking holidays to the fullest. A trekking porter carries about 20-22 Kg (about 10-11 Kg from each of you), and we suggest to hire a porter in between of two trekkers.

Essential Information

Tamang Heritage trekking permits

To trek in the Tamang Heritage Trail Trek, you need some permits, which are a Langtang National Park entry Permit and TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) permits. We apply for and obtain all these permits once you book a trek.

The best time to do the Tamang Heritage Trail Trek

Nepal has the best seasons to trek to the Tamang heritage trail: Spring and autumn. The spring season lasts from March to May, and the autumn season lasts from September to December. See the detailed guide for the best time to go on the Tamang Heritage Trek.

The weather and temperature suit mountain trekking, and you can view the magnificent mountains. However, January and February are still good times for the trek to Tamang Heritage Trail.

Fitness for Tamang Heritage Trek

To do the Tamang heritage trail trekking in Nepal, you require a moderate fitness level and daily trekking between 3 hours and 8 hours, as you will reach an altitude of 3165m above sea level. You do not need to have previous trekking experience. However, physical fitness, good health, stamina, and a strong desire are mandatory.

Accommodation on the Tamang Heritage Trail Trek

We provide 3-star hotels for three nights in Kathmandu and simple lodge/homestay accommodation for the remaining seven nights on the Tamang Heritage trail.

The rooms are basic, usually just a bed with a pillow and blankets on the trek lodge/guest house trekking. Please note some of them are very basic, and a sense of adventure is necessary.

Note:

  • Accommodation will primarily be on double/twin share, and a single room is also available in Kathmandu.
  • The hotel upgrade in Kathmandu is available to upgrade to luxury 4-5 star. Let us know if you want to upgrade the hotels in Kathmandu.

Meals and Drinks on Tamang Heritage Trek

We will provide 25 meals (10 breakfasts, eight lunches, and seven dinners) on the Tamang Heritage Trail, which will be in hotels and lodges. You have breakfast and dinner at the lodge, where you stay overnights, and lunch at the lodge is available along the trail.

You can find a wide variety of Nepali and Western meals and drinks (coffee, tea, milk, soft drinks, and beer) on the trek, and the drinks are not included in the cost. You can buy them yourself at the lodge/guest house that is available.

We also advise you to bring water purification pills or medicine while coming to Tamang Heritage Trails. Average water is free, so you can use this medicine and drink it or buy bottled or boiled water.

Travel Insurance for Tamang Heritage Trek

Travel insurance is required when you come to Tamang Heritage Trail; if you suffer from a severe sickness or injury while trekking, we will do everything to transfer you to the nearest hospital. However, you will be entirely liable for all the expenses incurred in the evacuation/rescue. So, please make sure that these expenses are covered by your insurance policy when you buy the policy.
