Follow an adventurous trekking route through the heart of the Himalayas

The Annapurna Circuit trekking is more than an adventure. The trail is filled with lush forest, narrow mountain trails, grassy meadows, and deep gorgeous gorges, keeping every step different and exciting. You will walk alongside rushing rivers and see waterfalls that make you forget the sore muscles and tiredness.

With steep climbs, rocky descents, and plenty of ups and downs, this trail pushes you to your limits while immersing you in nature's serenity and pure beauty. With every challenge in Annapurna Circuit trails comes comfort, and with every step, you are led further into the heart of the Himalayas.

Cozy villages and the friendliest faces on the trail

Annapurna Circuit takes you through several lovely villages of different ethnic communities. You come across Brahmins, Newars, and Chhetris in the lower zone. The upper trail is made up of people from the Magar, Gurung, and Thakali communities. Their warm hospitality and humble disposition will tug at your heart.

Annapurna Circuit trekking is a cultural awakening that allows you to experience another side of life. Your overnight stopovers are in the villages of Bhulbhule, Chamje, Dharapani, Pisang, Manang, Yak Kharka, Thorong Phedi, Muktinath, Tatopani, and Ghorepani. You will feel welcomed while sleeping with other trekkers in the lodges in these villages.

Side hikes in Manang: Acclimatize with a view

Trekking the Annapurna Circuit trail includes one rest day at Manang (3,519m) to acclimatize to the high altitude. This day also includes a rewarding side hike to keep you moving and soak up more mountain magic.

You have two great choices: hike to historic Braga Monastery along the scenic trail or, if you are adventurous, try the more challenging route to stunning Ice Lake (4,500m). Either way, you will gain gradual elevation as you enjoy fabulous views while soaking up Manang's alpine scenery.

Diverse landscapes and stunning mountain panorama

Annapurna Circuit trek odyssey is a beauty to behold, as every day brings new scenery. From luscious green hills and terraced farms to rocky cliffs, alpine meadows, and barren trans-Himalayan terrain, all these landscapes change dramatically depending on the altitude gain.

And the mountains? They are just unforgettable. Along the Annapurna Circuit trekking route, you are rewarded with a sweeping panorama of Himalayan giants such as Annapurna I (8,091m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Nilgiri, Tilicho Peak, Fishtail, Gangapurna, and many more.

Whether you are crossing a river gorge or climbing toward a high pass, the panoramas never stop coming your way, and that is the beauty of the Annapurna Circuit trail.

Walk through lush pastures and cross Thorong La Pass

The trail of Annapurna Circuit opens up into expansive alpine meadows where you find yaks and mules peacefully grazing under the Himalayan sun.

Then, the path becomes increasingly steep and rugged, leading you to the great Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), which is Nepal’s highest mountain Pass and the apex of your Annapurna Circuit adventure. To cross the pass, you will need good stamina, proper acclimatization, and the guidance of an experienced trekking staff to help you on the high-altitude trek conditions to navigate the terrain.

As a dreamy bonus to the already beautiful Annapurna Circuit trek, you will stand atop Thorong La Pass, and feel absolutely priceless once you conquer it.

Receive blessings at the sacred Muktinath Temple

After crossing Thorong La Pass, the trek brings you to Muktinath Temple (3,800m), a deeply spiritual place and a religious stop on the Annapurna Circuit route. Sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists, the 7th-century temple is among the 108 sacred Siddhpeeth.

Surrounded by a peaceful mountain landscape and fluttering prayer flags, Muktinath is a serene spot to meditate, rest, and receive blessings before continuing your journey along the Kali Gandaki Valley.

Travel along the world’s deepest gorge and pass by stone houses

As soon as you depart from Muktinath, the Annapurna Circuit journey continues along the Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world, formed between the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. Although less often referred to, the ancient trade route you will follow once connected Tibet, Nepal, and India.

Soak in the natural hot springs of Tatopani

A pleasant relief after days of trekking in Annapurna Circuit, Tatopani is a great place to unwind. Renowned for its natural hot springs, this small village offers a warm respite on the descent. The springs request a small entry fee, managed by the locals, but they're worth it.

A relaxing dip here rejuvenates fatigued muscles and is rumored to be curative for skin conditions. Be sure to wear a swimsuit and have some extra cash for this water-healing pleasure!

Catch a magical sunrise from Poon Hill

Towards the end of the Annapurna Circuit hike, you will climb to Poon Hill (3,210m), a favorite viewpoint above the village of Ghorepani. It is an early morning walk to catch the magical panoramic sunrise lighting up the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges in gold and pink hues.

Poon Hill is a highlight on its own, often undertaken as a short trek, but as part of the full Annapurna Circuit, it is the perfect finish to your Himalayas adventure in Nepal.

Must-Know
Essential Information

Annapurna Circuit Trek difficulty

Trekking Annapurna Circuit is no small task, and the highlight of the adventure is crossing the intimidating Thorong La Pass at an astounding 5416 m. It is the biggest trekking pass in Nepal and one of the most memorable parts of the journey.

While you will not encounter any serious technical challenges in the Annapurna Circuit, it does demand good planning, preparation, physical fitness, and mental strength. You will spend nearly ten days in the heart of the Himalayas, adjusting to a more basic way of life, with basic but comfortable teahouses, hearty mountain meals, and breathtaking views in every direction.

The terrain at higher elevations can be demanding, with steep climbs, rocky paths, and seemingly endless stone staircases. The farther you go into the mountains, the more remote the trail gets and the fewer amenities there will be.

Altitude sickness on Annapurna Circuit Trek

As you travel up into the mountains, some people may feel altitude sickness or AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). But don't stress! Our 15-day Annapurna Circuit itinerary is designed with plenty of acclimatization time and a safety-first approach from start to finish.

That said, altitude can be unpredictable. Even with all the proper preparation, some people might still feel the effects. If that happens, your guide will be right there to help- trained to spot symptoms early, provide first aid, and ensure you are taken care of.

The Annapurna Circuit trek is absolutely safe and will be a remarkable journey as long as you are kind to your body, do not push beyond your limits, and follow your guide’s lead.

Annapurna Circuit Trek preparation

Getting trek-ready for the Annapurna Circuit before hitting the trails includes wise body conditioning for the challenge. We suggest you build your endurance, enhance your stamina, and strengthen your core through regular cardio, strength training, and long walks, better yet, with a backpack filled to about 5 kg.

You can also try cycling, swimming, hiking, and jogging. A regular gym routine is also beneficial. And, of course, don’t forget to visit the doctor and review your gear with our packing list before you go!

Annapurna Circuit Trek Guides and Porters

The Trekking Guide is included in our Annapurna Circuit 15-day package Cost, and the porter is not included and is available upon request; it will be arranged by additional charge.

An officially certified guide contributes cultural awareness, map reading, and an extra layer of security on the journey, especially at heights like Thorong La Pass. Similarly, porters carry heavy backpacks or bags for you and leave you free to enjoy breathtaking views along the trek.

Let us know in advance, and we will arrange it for you!

Annapurna Circuit Trek Equipment List

Key trekking gear for the Annapurna Circuit trek includes a warm sleeping bag, layered clothing (base layers, fleece, down jacket), good hiking boots, trekking poles, a backpack, and a rain jacket. Don't forget to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, water purification tablets, and a refillable water bottle. Other useful items are your headlamp, quick-dry towel, and small first-aid kit.

Missing something? No problem—there are enough stores in Pokhara and Kathmandu where you can rent or buy trekking equipment. We will also provide you with an exhaustive packing list before the trek! Read our Packing list blog for more ideas.

You can get hot water for showers at most teahouses until Manang for between USD 3 and USD 5. Beyond Manang, you will be trekking at higher elevations where temperatures drop significantly. While there may be hot water available, we don’t recommend trying to shower, as you might catch a cold or otherwise weaken your body.

Instead, we suggest waiting until you return to a lower altitude site like Muktinath or Jomsom to shower. When showering is not an option, you can always use wet tissues and dry shampoo to keep things fresh!

Are there charging facilities in Annapurna Circuit Trek, and are they free or paid?

Annapurna Circuit has charging available at many points along the route, often for a small fee, usually USD 1 to 2 per device.

As you trek higher, electricity is often limited and powered by solar, meaning charging can be slow or busy. For peace of mind, we recommend bringing a high-capacity power bank, spare camera batteries, or a portable solar charger. Being well prepared means your devices should stay charged for emergencies or for the views of a lifetime.

Do tea houses in Annapurna Circuit Trek provide Wi-Fi, and how reliable is it?

While trekking the Annapurna Circuit, you can access Wi-Fi for a small fee in most teahouses up to Manang. However, after Manang and northwards, both Wi-Fi and mobile signals grow increasingly unreliable. If the weather is unfavorable from Yak Kharka to Muktinath, communication can be lost altogether.

We recommend downloading maps, music, and required apps in advance, and informing loved ones of possible communication gaps.

Is the Annapurna Circuit trek beginner-friendly?

Annapurna Circuit is definitely not an ordinary trek. Still, beginners can totally rock it with a bit of cardio preparation, a good attitude, and timely breaks to sip ginger tea and spot yaks.

Remember: this trek is less about the number of hours and kilometers and more about having fun. You are already halfway there if you can walk, laugh, and appreciate a good mountain view!

Is the Annapurna Circuit trek dangerous?

Hiking in the Annapurna Circuit is safe with good preparation, sound acclimatization, and a dash of self-awareness. The trails are well-marked, and the teahouses are hospitable and cozy. But yes, altitude is real, so we take it slow and steady.

It is an adventure with a safety net and delicious DaalBhaat! A local guide could be your savior, especially if you are new to high-altitude trekking. And remember- no summit selfie is worth skipping water breaks and rest days!

What is the highest point of the Annapurna Circuit trek?

The iconic Thorong La Pass, at 5,416 meters (17,769 feet) above sea level, is the pinnacle of the Annapurna Circuit journey. This spectacle is the literal highest point on this trek.

Reaching the summit takes tremendous effort, but standing on top is surreal. With the magical landscape, fluttering prayer flags, and snow-covered peaks, every step to the top is a story worth telling.

Is the Annapurna Circuit trek hard?

Annapurna Circuit Trek has high passes, long trails, and unpredictable weather, but nothing that a passionate trekker can't handle. It is possible if you've got good fitness levels, take time to acclimatize, and are mentally prepared to give the trek a go.

The absolute pleasure of the trek is pushing your limits and knowing how strong and determined you are! Plus, the incredible views of Annapurna region make the sore legs and early morning wakings totally worth it!
