Trekking and Walking Holidays in Nepal
Trekking and hiking in Nepal are unique and rewarding holidays in the Himalayas for mountain lovers who like to discover the diverse range of flora, fauna, and varieties of culture or spend their holidays in the majestic mountains. Trekking in the Himalayas can be a one-day hike to reach a hill or a wilderness adventure walking in the high Himalayas for a month.
The trekking trails in Nepal go through rhododendron, bamboo, and oak forests and the subtropical region to the alpine, passing through different landscapes, lush alpine meadows, and rocky, snow-covered passes; ice falls, glaciers, altitude above the tree line, and frozen lakes. When you trek in Nepal, you see nature in its most natural form, interact with rural communities, and come close to some of the tallest mountains on earth.
Trekking in Nepal is not only travelling towards the destination; it is a Himalayan journey to explore something new and discover the unknown from the known, the mystical culture, varied religions, and many colourful festivals. The diverse lifestyle of friendly people from different ethnic groups living in the mountain regions amazes you throughout your holidays. The warm hospitality of the locals of these remote and rugged mountains under some of the harshest conditions enchants you in such a way that they come often and build long-term relationships with the fondest memories of Nepal.
Guide and Crew on Nepal Trekking
We at Outfitter Himalaya provide a local certificate tour guide for tours in Kathmandu and a certified local trekking guide for the trek who handles the logistics and guides you and your team on the trekking Himalaya. We provide porters to carry your main luggage on trekking, and there will be one porter for every two members; a porter carries about 20 - 22kg, which means 10- 11 KG from each trekker.
We also provide a Sherpa/assistant guide when eight or more members are in the group trek.
Note: Some of our trekking package costs include porters, and some do not, and porters are available as an add-on cost when they are not included.
Extra Money while Trekking in Nepal
You need to have some extra money to spend while you are on a walking holiday in Nepal. Most of the accommodations and meals are included in the package, so you only need some money for table drinks (alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages), snacks, souvenirs, and a hot shower. If you do not drink alcohol and do not stop, the US $10-20 per day per person should be enough for these expenses.
The extra money depends mainly on your habits. If you want to drink alcoholic drinks, they are expensive in the mountains; you need to have additional cash for drinks.
The weight limit for trekking porters in Nepal
We advise hiring a porter in between two trekkers. A porter carries about 20-22 kg, which means about 10-11 kg from each trekker. You can have about 4-5 kilograms in your day backpack, which will be about 15-16 Kg, enough for the trek.
However, if you need to take more stuff, we offer you to take another/extra porter at an additional cost.
Tip to the trekking/tour staff in Nepal
Tipping is always a matter of personal discretion, and there is no fixed rate of tipping on guided tours or trekking in Nepal. Nevertheless, our staff expects tipping when you use Tipping a guide, porter, or driver. If the services of our staff on guided trekking and tours, the Tipping is a nice way to show our appreciation as the guide, porter, and driver are the lifeline of your successful tours and treks in the high Himalayas.
Tipping depends on many things, including whether you are traveling alone or in a group, staying for a day, week, or month, and what services you have booked.
How Much to Tip?
Most travelers don't know how much to tip, and they are afraid if they offer too little or too much. We have tried to answer this question; however, it is not an easy question to answer. In one sentence, it is reasonable to tip the 10-15% of the trip cost you have paid. However, you would have paid in total for many services, so we have given the guidelines below:
- Trekking Guide: $10 to $15 USD Per day
- Trekking Porter: $5 to $10 USD per day
- Tour Guide: $10 to USD 15 per day
- Driver: $5 to USD 10 per day
The above is just a guideline, and it depends on which trek you have done as well. Adventure treks in the Himalayas include the Annapurna Circuit Trek, Everest High Pass Trek, Everest Base Camp Trek, Chola Pass Trek, Island Peak, Mera Peak, and Manaslu Trek. The guide and porter on these treks may expect a little more.
