How are the rooms in the tea house in Annapurna circuit?

As mentioned above, the tea houses are simple, so the rooms are also basic. Usually, two or three trekkers share the room. Toilets are built outside of the teahouse and are common. Most of the tea houses do not have private washrooms. Overall, the space will be small but clean and cozy.

  • Twin or triple beds: The rooms in tea houses usually have two or three beds because of less space. During the peak trekking seasons, sharing the rooms with your fellow trekkers is common. The rooms have beds, bedding, and a small table. Most of the rooms have a window covered with a curtain as well. The bedding is clean but not spotless. For the Annapurna Circuit trek, the sleeping bag is highly recommended.
  • Limited furniture: The rooms have little furniture. The bed is the only significant piece of furniture. Apart from that, the rooms have a small table and some hooks.
  • Single Rooms: Single rooms are unavailable everywhere and cost much more than shared rooms. You will not have an issue finding a single room until Manang village. After that, single rooms are hard to find, especially during peak seasons. You can pay for a twin bed and get the whole room.
  • Insulation and heating: Rooms in the tea house are not insulated. Likewise, there is no heating system in the rooms. You will get a blanket from the tea house. Extra blankets are only sometimes available and cost a few more bucks. Therefore, carry a sleeping bag.
  • Electricity and charging facilities: Solar power and wood are the main energy sources along the Annapurna Circuit route. Tea houses charge USD 1 to 2 or 3 per device to charge. A solar charger or power bank is highly recommended for the journey.
  • Hot showers and WiFi: Hot showers cost USD 3 to USD 7 as per the altitude. With the increase in elevation, taking a shower will become difficult even if you get hot water due to a cold climate. Use wet wipes to keep you clean and refreshed. Paid WiFi is available in villages at lower elevations. Villages at the upper elevation do not have WiFi. Mobile networks are also unreliable.

What about the toilets in the tea houses on Annapurna Circuit?

Toilets are mostly made outside the lodge or tea house. A handful of premium lodges are available at the lower altitude on the Annapurna Circuit route, where you can get Western-style toilets and en suite washrooms.

However, this is only the case for some of the trek. Toilets are mostly common and shared between trekkers. Both Western-style flush toilets and squat toilets are found on the route. As the elevation increases, the number of squat toilets increases.

Regarding cleanliness and hygiene, the toilets are not spotless and dirty. The cleanliness of the toilet also depends on the tea house owner. Therefore, we will spend the night at the best tea houses during the trek.

For your comfort and convenience, it's advisable to pack all necessary toiletries, including soap, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, shampoo, etc., for the journey. Rest assured, these basic necessities will be available at the tea houses along the Annapurna Circuit trek.
