You do not have to do anything special or advance to get your body ready for the Ghorepani Poon Hill adventure. Daily 3 to 4 hours of the walk for a few weeks before the Trek begins will be sufficient.

You can also do a few day hikes. If you go to the gym and exercise regularly, your focus is on building your stamina and core body strength. Also, meet your doctor once and learn about altitude sickness.

Best Time for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is available and doable throughout the year. However, the best times are autumn (from mid-September till mid-December) and spring (from the beginning of March until May end).

Fitness for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

A moderate level of fitness is required with daily walking/trekking from between 3 hours to 8 hours for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. You will reach 3210m above sea level on this Trek.

You do not need to have previous trekking experience. However, it would help if you had good health, a strong desire, and stamina to complete the hiking with positive thoughts.

Accommodation on Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

We provide a three-star hotel for five nights (3 nights in Kathmandu and two nights in Pokhara) and simple lodge/teahouse accommodation for the rest of the four nights on Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek.

The rooms are basic, normally just a bed with a pillow and blankets, on available lodges. Some of them are very basic, and a sense of adventure is necessary.

Notes:

  • Accommodation will be on double/twin share (triple share available in most places). Hotel upgrades in Kathmandu and Pokhara are available. Luxury 4 & 5-star hotels are available in these cities.
  • So, let us know if you want to upgrade the hotels in Kathmandu & Pokhara.

Meals & Drinks on Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

A total of 19 meals (9 breakfasts, five lunches, and five dinners) are included in our Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek package.

These meals are taken in lodges. Breakfasts and dinners are served at the lodge, where overnight and lunch at the lodge stays are available along the trail. The guide will stop and provide lunch at lunchtime.

On this trail, you can find a wide variety of Nepali and Western meals. However, Nepali set meals are available everywhere (Dal Bhat is available everywhere). Drinks like coffee, tea, milk, soft drinks, beer, etc., are also available everywhere. Note that these drinks are not included in our price.

We suggest you bring water purification pills/medicine while coming for the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek since you can have normal water for free. You can use the medicine and drink it or buy bottled or boiled/safe water to drink.

Transportation on Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

We provide private vehicles for airport transfers and tours in Kathmandu and tourist buses for Kathmandu—Pokhara—Kathmandu.

However, you can drive by private car/jeep from Kathmandu to Pokhara or take a short flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara to Kathmandu.

Today, we have a full day in Kathmandu. We will take this opportunity to visit some historical sites that offer great insights into Nepali culture, art, and history. The tour will be guided, and one of our friendly tour guides will keep you company.

Some of the places we may visit during the tour are Syambhunath, Boudhnath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

After the tour ends, rest and meet with the trek guide later. We will discuss the Trek and end the day by preparing, packing, and purchasing the needed trekking gear.

We travel to Pokhara today. It is another big, beautiful city and gateway to the Annapurna region. We leave the hotel in the morning between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM and begin driving in a comfortable tourist vehicle. The route is phenomenal and packed with gorgeous green hills, rivers, terraced fields, waterfalls, and small settlement areas.

We drop you at the hotel in Pokhara. Your hotel will be around Phewa Lake so that you can explore the area in the evening. Likewise, visit the bustling Lakeside Market area and enjoy the night.

Our Trek begins today, but first, we take a short hour-long drive to Nayapul, the starting point of the Trek. From here, we begin walking along the banks of the Modi Khola and reach Birethanti (1,015 m).

We continue trekking and pass by a village before walking along the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. The route ascends to Hile (1,495 m), and after a short climb from here, we reach Tikhedhunga.

The trail crosses a suspension bridge near Tikhedhunga and steeply ascends on stone staircases to the lovely Ulleri village (2,080 m). We then walk by pastures and terraced fields. Further, we cross two streams and climb to Nangethanti.

After a short lunch break, we continue ascending towards Ghorepani village. From here, we see stunning views of the Annapurna Range, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, and other mountains.

We'll be touching the highest point of the journey this day, Poon Hill (3,210 m). From Ghorepani, we follow a rough track that leads to the famous Poon Hill vantage point.

Upon reaching the top, we can see sensational snow-capped mountains with a gorgeous sunrise. Retracing the trail, we drop at Ghorepani village and continue the Trek to Tadapani after having breakfast.

It's a short and easy walk between Tadapani and Ghandruk. To reach Ghnadruk, we walk through dense forests and pass by Bhaisi Kharka.

The route offers uninterrupted views of the Annapurna range and picturesque mountain villages. Some of the mountains we can see while trekking are Annapurna South, Himchuli, and Fishtail.

On our last day of the Trek, we descend to Nayapul. The trail is gentle and passes through lush forests.

On the way, we pass by villages like Kimche, Syauli Bazar, and Birethanti. From Nayapul, we drive one hour back to Pokhara.

Enjoy the day relaxing in your hotel and spending time around Phewa Lake. Shop at the Lakeside Market and end the day with a delicious dinner, enjoying a lovely sunset (if you fancy it).

We drive back to Kathmandu today. The drive will be the same as before, comfortable and scenic. Once we reach Kathmandu, we drop you off at the hotel.
