Today, we have a full day in Kathmandu. We will take this opportunity to visit some historical sites that offer remarkable insights into Nepali culture, art, and history. One of our friendly tour guides will keep you company. Some of the places we may visit during the tour are Syambhunath, Boudhnath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Kathmandu Durbar Square.

After the tour ends, rest and meet with the trek guide later. We will discuss the Trek and end the day by preparing, packing, and purchasing the needed trekking gear.

We travel to Pokhara today. It is another big, beautiful city and gateway to the Annapurna region. We leave the hotel in the morning between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM and begin driving in a comfortable tourist vehicle. The route is phenomenal and packed with gorgeous green hills, rivers, terraced fields, waterfalls, and small settlement areas.

We drop you at the hotel in Pokhara. Your hotel is around Phewa Lake, so you can explore the area in the evening. Likewise, visit the bustling Lakeside Market area and enjoy the night.

Option:

  • Due to some construction work on the road to Pokhara, the drive may take about 9-10 hours. There is an option to take a 35-minute flight to Pokhara; add this flight if you want to take a flight to Pokhara.
  • There is an adventure 3 hours rafting in Trishuli River Rafting on the way to Pokhara; add on if you want to take rafting on the way to Pokhara, and the rafting is great in Oct, Nov, March, April, and May.

Our Trek begins today, but first, we will drive to Nayapul, or we may also drive to Hile/Tikhedunga (Depending on road conditions). We will have lunch and Hile and Trek to Ulleri.

The trail crosses a suspension bridge near Tikhedhunga and steeply ascends on stone staircases to the lovely Ulleri village (2,080 m).

After breakfast at the lodge, we walk through pastures and terraced fields. We then cross two streams and climb to Nangethanti.

After a short lunch break, we continue ascending towards Ghorepani village. From here, we see stunning views of the Annapurna Range, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, and other mountains.

We'll be touching the highest point of the journey this day, Poon Hill (3,210 m). From Ghorepani, we follow a rough track that leads to the famous Poon Hill vantage point.

Upon reaching the top, we can see sensational snow-capped mountains with a gorgeous sunrise. Retracing the trail, we drop at Ghorepani village and have breakfast and continue the Trek to Tadapani.

It's a short and easy walk between Tadapani and Ghandruk. To reach Ghnadruk, we walk through dense forests and pass by Bhaisi Kharka.

The route offers uninterrupted views of the Annapurna range and picturesque mountain villages. Some of the mountains we can see while trekking are Annapurna South, Himchuli, and Fishtail. We will have lunch in Ghandruk and will drive to Pokhara.

Sarangkot is also known for its beautiful sunrise and sunset views. While returning, we will stop at the Bindhyabasini temple.

Further, we will visit Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, a sacred Hindu cave just outside Pokhara. It is a popular spot for pilgrimage and has a natural Shiva linga inside the cave. Davi's fall is another popular place in Pokhara that we will visit. It is a natural waterfall; we also visit the Peace stupa. The tour ends at Phewa Lake, where you can go boating, relish a gorgeous sunrise, and enjoy a panoramic view of Fishtail (6,993 m) while visiting Tal Bahari Temple.

Regardless of the Ghorepani Poon hill trail not being challenging as other famous treks like the Langtang Circuit trek and Everest Base Camp trek, you'll have an adventurous venture through the wilderness of the Annapurnas.

Along the way, you'll be walking on many uphill paths and stone staircases, which may get exhausting for beginner trekkers. Likewise, it's a remote trek and has its limitations.

Ghorepani Poon Hill trip preparation

You do not have to do anything special or advance to get your body ready for the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trip. Daily 3 to 4 hours of the walk for a few weeks before the Trek begins will be sufficient.

You can also do a few day hikes. If you go to the gym and exercise regularly, you focus on building your stamina and core body strength. Also, meet your doctor once and learn about altitude sickness.

Best Time for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Ghorepani trekking is available and doable throughout the year. However, the best times are autumn (from mid-September till mid-December) and spring (from the beginning of March until May end).

Fitness for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking

A moderate level of fitness is required with daily walking/trekking from between 3 hours to 8 hours for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking. You will reach 3210m above sea level on this Trek.

You do not need to have previous trekking experience. However, it would help if you had good health, a strong desire, and stamina to complete the hiking with positive thoughts.

Accommodation on Ghorepani Poon Hill Journey

We provide a standard tourist hotel for six nights (3 nights in Kathmandu and three nights in Pokhara) and simple lodge/teahouse accommodation for the rest of the four nights on Ghorepani Poon Hill journey.

The rooms at available lodges are basic, normally just a bed with a pillow and blankets. Some are very basic, and a sense of adventure is necessary.

Notes: Accommodation will be on double/twin share (triple share available in most places). Hotel upgrades in Kathmandu and Pokhara are available. Luxury 4 and 5-star hotels are available in these cities. So, let us know if you want to upgrade the hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Meals and Drinks on Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

A total of 16 meals (9 breakfasts, three lunches, and four dinners) are included in our Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek package cost.

These meals are taken in lodges. Breakfasts and dinners are served at the lodge, where overnight and lunch at available lodges along the trail. The guide will stop and provide lunch at lunchtime.

You can find a wide variety of Nepali and Western meals on this trail. However, Nepali set meals are available everywhere (Dal Bhat is available everywhere). Drinks like coffee, tea, milk, soft drinks, and beer are also available everywhere. Note that these drinks are not included in our price.

Transportation on Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

We provide private vehicles for airport transfers and tours in Kathmandu and Pokhara and tourist buses for Kathmandu to Pokhara to Kathmandu. However, you can drive by private car/jeep from Kathmandu to Pokhara or take a short flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara to Kathmandu. Please let us know if you want to upgrade your modes of transport to private or flight.
