Short Mardi Himal trek conveniently begins and ends in the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara. This city is a gateway to many treks in the Annapurna region. It offers a serene setting for trekkers to relax before and after their trek. The proximity of Pokhara to the trek's starting point, Kande, makes it easy for travelers to access the trailhead and enjoy the comforts of the city after completing the trek.
The ride from Pokhara to Kande is around one hour long. During the ride, you will witness beautiful countryside views and mountains. Kande is the starting point of the short Mardi Himal trek. From here, you will trek Deurali via Pothana.
The well-marked and leisurely Trail leads to Deurali. You will trek through lush forests and small settlements, encountering a wide range of flora and fauna. Pothana is at 2,125 meters above sea level. From here, the Trail continues to Deurali, located on a ridge. The views of the mountains are fantastic.
Deurali to Low Camp Trail is serene and covered with lush bamboo and rhododendron forests. Along the way, you will witness beautiful mountain views. From Deurali, the Trail steeply descends through lush oak, bamboo, and rhododendron forests.
Crossing numerous streams, you will trek past waterfalls and verdant hills. Soon, the Trail will take you to Dovan. It is a lovely rest point where you can have some warm tea, coffee, and light snacks. Further, the Trail steeply ascends via dense rhododendrons and bamboo forests.
You will follow a well-marked path and pass by a forested path, enjoying a glimpse of snow-capped mountains now and then to Low Camp. This place offers stunning views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.
You will follow a steep and strenuous trail from Low Camp to High Camp. Today is also a long trekking day. The stunning landscapes along the way will make the walk worthwhile. Leave the Low Camp early in the morning and trek through dense rhododendrons and bamboo forests.
Enjoy the fresh air, tranquil environment, and soothing scent of the forest as you trek deep into the rock terrain. The Trail also offers a striking panorama of Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna Range. You will stop in between trekking to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and interact with locals. Once you reach High Camp, enjoy comfortable and cozy tea house accommodations and delicious food.
Today is the big day. You will reach the Mardi Himal Base Camp, the final destination of this adventurous trek. You will leave High Camp early in the morning and have a delicious breakfast before trekking. The Trail follows steep hills and rock terrain and gradually ascends to the base camp.
As you climb higher, the Trail opens up, and the beautiful surrounding views become more apparent. The serene forests and soothing sounds of streams will make this part of climbing very relaxing. As you approach the Mardi Himal Base Camp, the Trail gets steep and straight with rock terrain. Be careful while trekking, and take support from your trekking poles.
From the base camp of Mardi Himal, you will witness outstanding mountain views of Annapurna Range, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, Tent Peak, Bharashikhar, etc. Spend some time here, enjoying the views, and then descend to Low Camp for overnight.
It is your last day of trekking. From Low Camp, you will follow a different route to Sidding village. The Trail goes through lush forests, crossing suspension bridges and streams. On this day, you will mostly descend. In Sidding, you will get a close insight into the authentic mountain lifestyle and meet with amiable and welcoming locals. After spending some time in Sidding, drive back to Pokhara.
Upon reaching Pokhara, the guide will drop you off at the hotel. You have the remaining day in the city free.

Hire a trekking porter
We suggest you to hire a porter to carry your bag pack while on trek, trekking with a light day pack is much easier and you enjoy your trekking holidays to the fullest. A trekking porter carries about 20-22 Kg (about 10-11 Kg from each of you), and we suggest to hire a porter in between of two trekkers.
Reaching Pokhara
The Best way to reach Pokhara is by taking a short flight from Kathmandu. Alternatively, you can take a tourist bus or hire a private vehicle. Please find add-on options if you want to book a flight to Pokhara or return and consult if you want to go by tourist bus or private vehicle. We can also book these transports for you.
Short Mardi Himal trek difficulty
Short Mardi Himal trek is offbeat but less challenging than famous trekking routes in the Annapurna region, such as the Annapurna Circuit and Nar Phu Valley Trek. You will cover around 40 km to 50 km during this trek in 5 days. The trekking route is quite rugged and steep, with constant ascents and descents.
The trek takes you through various terrains, including lush rhododendrons, bamboo and oak forests, alpine meadows, and rocky tracks. The altitude gain during the short Mardi Himal trek is gradual, which helps trekkers to acclimatize more comfortably. Nonetheless, some sections can be steep and challenging, especially ascending to the High Camp and Mardi Himal Base Camp.
Similarly, the tourist infrastructure along the short Mardi Himal trail is minimal, which adds to the trek's difficulty. Basic tea houses are available along the way but offer minimal services.
Altitude Sickness and preventive measures
While the Short Mardi Himal trek doesn't take you to extreme altitudes like some other treks in Nepal, you will still ascend to around 4,500 meters (14,764 ft) at Mardi Himal Base Camp.
