Must-Know
Essential Information

Best Season for Nepal Student Tour

The best times to participate in the Nepal Student Adventure are the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These periods offer stable weather, clear mountain views, and ideal temperatures for both sightseeing and trekking, making them perfect for student groups who want to experience the best of Nepal.

During spring, the trails bloom with rhododendrons, and wildlife is active in Chitwan. In autumn, the skies are crisp blue, and cultural festivals like Dashain and Tihar offer immersive learning opportunities.

While winter (December–February) is colder, it's still suitable for school and college tours that avoid high-altitude trekking. The monsoon season (June–August) is less ideal due to rain, but cultural activities in the cities are still possible.

Overall, the autumn and spring are the top seasons for student treks in Nepal, offering a combination of educational value, adventure, and natural beauty.

Poon Hill Trek Difficulty: Safe and Achievable for students

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, featured as part of our Nepal Student Trek, is one of the most beginner-friendly and rewarding Himalayan hikes, perfect for school and college student groups.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is classified as easy to moderate, requiring no prior experience in trekking. The trail is well-paved with stone steps and offers safe paths through rhododendron forests, making it suitable for comfortable daily walking hours. The highest point, Poon Hill (3,210 meters), is accessible through a steady climb and does not pose altitude sickness risks for most students. Some parts of the trail are steep and trodden, and the most demanding part of the trek is the climb of almost 3,000 stairs from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani.

With breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, the sunrise at Poon Hill is often described as one of the most inspiring moments of the entire Nepal Student Adventure. We pace the trek appropriately to suit student fitness levels and provide ample rest, hydration breaks, and local insights to make the journey both educational and enjoyable.

Altitude sickness

Altitude sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), is a concern when trekking above 3,000 meters. However, on the Nepal Student Adventure, the risk of altitude sickness is very low due to the moderate elevation and gradual ascent. The highest point on this itinerary is Poon Hill (3,210 meters) — a safe altitude for most students when approached properly.

Nayapul, the starting point of the trek, is located at an elevation of 1,070 meters. The trail ascends to Poon Hill from there, and the highest point of the trek is at 3,210 meters. The elevation gain is minimal, and the trail has a gentle pace, allowing you to acclimate to the altitude more easily. The risks of altitude sickness on this trek are low, and even if you experience any symptoms, our experienced guide will help you overcome them.

Even though the chance is low, it’s essential to recognize the signs:

  • Mild headache
  • vomiting
  • difficulty in breathing
  • slight fatigue or dizziness
  • insomnia
  • loss of appetite

These symptoms, if they occur, typically subside with rest and hydration. This student trek in Nepal is considered safe and low-altitude by Himalayan trekking standards. Most students complete it comfortably with no issues. Still, we brief all participants before the trek and guide them responsibly every step of the way.

Essential Travel Tips for Students Visiting Nepal

Planning a Nepal Student Tour? Whether you're coming for adventure, education, or cultural exploration, here are some smart travel tips to help you get the most out of your Nepal Student Adventure:

  • Keep Travel Documents Handy: Always carry a valid passport (with at least six months' validity), a visa (which can often be obtained upon arrival), and a student ID. Keep both physical and digital copies of your travel insurance and itinerary.
  • Learn a Few Local Words: Although English is widely spoken in tourist areas, learning basic Nepali greetings, such as "Namaste" (Hello) or "Dhanyabad" (Thank you), can go a long way in connecting with locals. It shows respect and interest in the culture.
  • Drink Safe Water: Avoid tap water. Always drink bottled or filtered water, especially in trekking regions. Carry a reusable bottle with a filter if possible — it's eco-friendly and convenient.
  • Be Flexible with Time: In Nepal, time moves a little slower. Please be aware of potential minor delays. Whether it's a bus or a hotel check-in, patience is key. Just embrace the laid-back charm — you're on an adventure!
  • Carry Enough Cash: While ATMs are available in cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, they're rare in mountain regions. Most small lodges, restaurants, and shops don't accept cards, so keep enough Nepali Rupees (NPR) on hand for daily expenses.
  • Dress modestly and comfortably: Nepal is a culturally conservative country. Wear modest clothing when visiting temples or local villages. While trekking, dress in light, layered clothing to handle changing temperatures.
  • Respect Local Customs and Culture: Always walk counterclockwise around stupas, ask permission before taking photos of people, and remove your shoes before entering temples or homes. Showing cultural sensitivity builds deeper connections.
  • Carry Basic Medicines: Pack a mini first-aid kit with your regular medications, altitude tablets (if trekking), and motion sickness pills for long drives. Don't rely on remote pharmacies.
  • Don't Expect Luxury Everywhere: Especially on treks, accommodations may be basic. Come with an open mind and a sense of adventure. Simple rooms and shared bathrooms are common in rural areas.

Follow the Guide's Instructions: For trekking, rafting, and wildlife safaris, always follow your guide's instructions. They're trained to ensure your safety, enjoyment, and cultural understanding throughout the trip.
