Most normal lodges have shared facilities, including shared bathrooms and communal dining areas.

Rooms in normal lodges are basic, offering a bed or mostly two with basic bedding. They may have a small table or shelf, but the focus is on providing shelter rather than luxury. While some normal lodges may have heating stoves in communal areas, individual rooms may not be heated, so sleeping bags are essential.

Single rooms are only available if you place the request early on. In villages like Gorak Shep and Dzongla, you may not get a single room. Basic lodges are more budget-friendly and are accessible to a wide range of trekkers. The emphasis is on providing a cost-effective and practical accommodation option.

How are the rooms in the basic lodges?

As mentioned earlier, the rooms in the basic lodges are simple and focus on functionality. They are small and simple but come with clean and cozy bedding. After a long day of walking, this accommodation will provide you with a much-needed recovery time.

• Twin beds: The rooms are typically shared between two trekkers. There are two separate single beds with a mattress, pillow, and blanket. For additional warmth and comfort, carry a sleeping bag with you during the trek. You can also ask for an additional blanket. Some lodges may charge a few bucks for it.
• Limited furniture: There is not much in the rooms. Apart from beds, there are usually a small table, hooks, and some shelves, where you can keep your belongings.
• Single rooms: The single rooms are limited, and if not booked in advance, there is a very low chance you will find one during the peak trekking seasons. You may pay for the twin shared room if you cannot share it with fellow trekkers.
• Insulation and heating: Rooms in the basic lodges are not heated. The dining area is the only place in these lodges that is well-heated because of a stove or heater. That is why sleeping bags are recommended.
• Electricity and charging facilities: Locals in the Everest region highly rely on solar power and fuel. You can charge your devices in the lodges, but you may have to pay USD 2 to USD 4.
• Hot showers and WiFi: Hot showers and WiFi are also additional services in the basic lodges and cost a few extra bucks. The WiFi may not provide you with a stable connection like in the city.

What about the toilets in the basic lodges?

At lower altitudes and big villages such as Lukla and Namche Bazaar, the lodges are equipped with relatively comfortable Western-style flush toilets. However, as you ascend to higher altitudes, the infrastructure becomes more basic due to the logistical challenges of the terrain.
