Manaslu region, with its awe-inspiring grandeur, offers a trekking experience that is truly unparalleled. Its remote and rugged terrain, adorned with pristine landscapes, presents a challenge that adventure enthusiasts are eager to conquer. However, with this great beauty and remote location, comes the thrill of being disconnected from the world.

Trekking in the Manaslu region means embracing the adventure of being off-grid for numerous days. While we cannot change this, there are a few things that you can do to enhance your self-reliance and resourcefulness, ensuring a better network and Internet connectivity while trekking in the Manaslu region.

Whether you do the Manaslu Circuit trek, Tsum Valley trek, short Manaslu trek, or Manaslu Circuit trek with Tsum Valley trek, this blog will provide you with all the information related to the network and Internet along the trekking routes.

We'll provide valuable insights into the region's network limitations, communication options, and tips for making the most of your connectivity.

Telecommunication infrastructure along the Manaslu trek route

Like many remote areas in Nepal, the Manaslu region has significantly improved its telecommunication infrastructure in recent years.

However, it's important to note that the infrastructure may be less extensive and reliable than in urban areas. The primary telecom services in the region include mobile networks and satellite phones for emergencies.

Available mobile networks and their coverage in Manaslu

Ncell

Ncell is one of the major mobile network operators in Nepal. This sim provides weak coverage along the Manaslu trek route.

Major villages and settlements along the trail are likelier to have better signal strength. In contrast, higher altitudes and isolated regions may have weaker or no signal.

Nepal Telecom (NTC)

Nepal Telecom, the state-owned telecom operator, also offers mobile services in the Manaslu trek region. The coverage is better, and we recommend getting this sim for the journey.

SIM card and connectivity

One practical way to ensure connectivity during your Manaslu trek is to purchase a local SIM card (either Ncell or NTC) in Kathmandu before you start your journey. This will enable you to stay connected for most of your trek, despite the network limitations in the region.

However, be prepared for times without network connectivity, especially in the upper part of the trail.

Internet connectivity during the Manaslu trek

The mountainous landscape, limited infrastructure, and the high-altitude nature of the Manaslu trek make internet connectivity poor.

Teahouses along the route offer WiFi services; however, you have to have the right expectations regarding reliability and speed.

WiFi is often available in common areas, such as dining rooms. Still, it may need to be faster, limited in bandwidth, and subject to frequent disruptions due to weather conditions or power outages.

Ncell and Nepal Telecom (NTC)

Ncell and Nepal Telecom provide mobile data coverage along the Manaslu trail. As mentioned above, NTC has better coverage, and the network weakens at higher altitudes.

Trekkers may experience 3G or 4G data speeds in some areas, but 2G or lower speeds are more common. Likewise, in some sections of the trail, there is no signal at all.

Mobile data speed and reliability can vary significantly depending on your location. In areas with coverage, you can use mobile data for essential communication, such as messaging and email.

However, streaming, video calls, and other bandwidth-intensive activities are usually only feasible sometimes.

Rest assured, telephone and internet coverage is available at popular night stops along the Manaslu trail, providing you with a sense of security and confidence during your trek.

For your convenience, here are the details about the telephone network and internet coverage at the significant night stops along the Manaslu trail. NTC provides a better network in the Manaslu region than Ncell, so keep this in mind when planning your communication needs.
