Best Nepal Trekking Holidays for Summer/Monsoon 2025 and 2026

Upper Mustang Trekking/Tour

Upper Mustang is a rain shadow area in Nepal. It is located in the rain shadow of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Because of that, the region is semi-desert and does not receive rainfall. It makes trekking to the Upper Mustang possible in monsoon season.

You may face rainfall until you reach Upper Mustang, though. Once you enter the area, there is no issue of rain or slippery tracks. Travel here requires special permits, and travellers have to follow some additional rules. Lo Manthang is the main village in Upper Mustang. It is also known as the Walled City and the Last Forbidden Kingdom in Nepal.

Upper Mustang landscape
Upper Mustang landscape

To reach here, you will trek through several small villages and cross numerous mountains passes under 4,000 meters. The landscape is arid and desert-like here. You will see unique rocks, vast meadows, sand deserts, canyons, high cliffs, and snow-capped mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Nilgiri. The region has many centuries-old monasteries, caves, and stupas to explore.

The Namgyal Gompa, Tingkhar, Ghar Gompa, Amchi Museum, and the royal palace are some famous landmarks in Upper Mustang. The expensive permit keeps Upper Mustang away from the crowd of tourists.

Not only that, but you can also do an Upper Mustang jeep tour if you do not want to trek. It is the only region in the Himalayas in Nepal that can be explored in a jeep.

The locals are very welcoming. They follow Tibetan Buddhism and have similar cultural practices, language, dress, and values to Tibetans.

Annapurna Circuit Trek

You might wonder if the Annapurna Circuit trek in the summer/monsoon season is possible. Though this time of the year is considered not ideal for trekking because of unstable weather, it is still attainable with adequate preparation, proper packing, and strong support.

Rain does not fall nonstop between June and August. Summer and monsoon share these months, so there are many days when rain does not fall at all, and hence, the Annapurna Circuit trail remains dry.

Even if the rain falls and the trail gets muddy, you can hike wearing proper rain gear. Note that you will experience varying temperatures. Some days can get very hot and humid, but the nights and mornings will remain cold as you are in the mountains at a high altitude.

Because it is off time for trekking, the Annapurna Circuit route is empty. The vegetation, rivers, streams, and waterfalls thrive in the summer/monsoon season. Once you go above Yak Kharka, the chances of rainfall are very low.

Crossing Thorong La Pass is also quite remarkable at this time of the year. The landscapes and mountain views are exceptional, too. Our Annapurna Circuit trek itinerary does not include domestic flights.

You will drive from Muktinath to Tatopani, hike a couple more days down to Nayapul, where the trek ends, and then drive back to Kathmandu via Pokhara. It allows you to escape potential flight delays and cancellations. There is some other Annapurna circuit trek and some of them are tilicho Lake with Thorong La Pass Trek, Nar Phu Valley with Thorong La Pass, Annapurna circuit with ABC and Short Annapurna Circuit Trek.
